Snow Goose Hunt in the spring from february to march

Join us for a Spring Snow Goose Hunt this spring. We have been guiding spring snow goose hunts since the spring conservation order season was introduced in 1999 to help combat the raising lesser snow goose populations and to help in saving the tundra from the over eating snow geese.

Since the inception of the light goose conservation order season we have managed to successfully hunt and chase the snow goose migrations through the greater parts of the Mississippi & Central Flyways from Arkansas to the Canadian border. Most noteably we spent the majority of the first part of the new spring snow goose season hunting around the famed Loess Bluffs NWR aka Squaw Creek NWR also known as The Snow Goose Capital of the World, in Mound City Missouri. Since the early days there have been more guides in Mound City Missouri hunting spring snow geese than any other part of the country.

We have chosen to step away from that area and chase geese in less pressured areas where we can be more successful with at times smaller concentrations of birds and ultimately less hunting pressure. We may see less birds than the Mound City refuge roll outs that sometimes can surpass 1 million snow geese but it is well worth the venture to not have to deal with the pressure and problems of having other outfitters too close.

You can still find us chasing snow geese in the spring in Missouri however not in the north western part of the state with all the other snow goose hunting outiftters. Our experience leads us away from the crowds and into more sustainable areas even after we leave Missouri our new destination will be western Iowa where again most guides will be found in Nebraska and South Dakota.

Spring Snow Goose Hunt Dates

We try to give our hunters the best possible opportunity and we have found that our efforts are best suited in mid February into mid March. We typically hunt the central region of the United States and don't chase the snow geese up into the northern territories. We have found that over time this has been the most productive and consistant hunting.

What to bring

What things to bring on a spring snow goose hunt. Whether or not you book a spring snow goose hunt with us or with another outfitter there are several things to think about and bring with you for a spring snow goose hunting adventure.

Below is a list with images of essential items we suggest that you bring with you on a spring snow goose hunt. Keep in mind everyone is different and these are only general suggestions from our point of view there may be things you will either want to bring or not bring.

spring snow goose hunt 1

All Weather Gear

In the spring it's impossible to predict the weather. Heck it's always impossible to predict the weather especially in the spring so making sure that you pack for all weather conditions is vital. We may have days we hunt in hot weather and some days that we hunt in blizzard like conditions. You just never know where the birds are going to be and what conditions we may come across on the chase during the spring migration.

spring snow goose hunt 2

White Tyvek Suits

We are moving away from full size layout blinds and having white tyvek suits are usable in short stubble fields or in the snow and even in a corn stubble field. No matter what we are going to be using them and having them gives us an advantage when hunting spring snow geese.

spring snow goose hunt 3

White Hats (beanie or stocking)

Bring a white hat its better to blend in with our decoy sets with so many white decoys around us it is easier to have everyone in white hats to blend into the surroundings and they are comfortable in colder weather. We suggest white fleece hats they are the dullest and blend in the best and reduce sun glare on very sunny days.

spring snow goose hunt 4

Valid Hunting license

Valid hunting license for the state that you will be hunting snow geese. We are not the law however, we can atleast make sure that our hunters are following the rules. We are not going to ask everyone to show us their licenses but, we also don't want to have to deal with the DNR if, somone else doesn't feel like following the rules. It is not our responsibility to make sure that you have the proper licensing to hunt and it is your responsibility to either make an effort to find out what licensing is necessary and how to obtain those licenses. We are glad to help out in finding a place near where we will be hunting to obtain licensing.

spring snow goose hunt 5

Shotgun or Shotguns

Pretty obvious if you want to hunt and be able to shoot you need to bring a shotgun. We do not provide shotguns to hunters and if your gun fails it's always nice to have a back up as well. We suggest bringing a shotgun that is a 12 gauge or larger that shoots 3 - 3 1/2 inch shells. A 20 or 16 gauge is probably not the best idea since the shooting can at times be at a distance if conditions are not right and we have to shoot them at a range that will not favor those size shotguns.

spring snow goose hunt 6

Ammunition

Again maybe goes without saying here and pretty obvious, if you want to hunt and be able to shoot you need to bring ammunition for your shotgun. We do not provide ammunition however, in certain circumstances we can work something out if needed. We suggest bringing a 3 - 3 1/2 inch shells from size 2 shot to BBB. All in all if you are comfortable shooting 4 shot that is acceptable as well if that's what you like however we suggest 2 shot or larger. Ammunition must follow the standard waterfowl hunting laws and must be a non-toxic shot and can not be lead.

spring snow goose hunt 7

Water & Beverages

Having water or beverages in the field is a necessity for staying hydrated and for your enjoyment. Water if obviously a necessity and we suggest bringing some to the field with you since our hunts are all day hunts and having water to drink through-out the day is a must. Anything outside of water is up to you whether you want to bring it out or not. No alchohol is permitted in the field on our hunts safety is of the utmost importance and mixing alchohol and firearms just isn't a good idea. Please if you want to drink do so after the hunt and don't put us or anyone hunting at risk.

spring snow goose hunt 8

Snacks for the field

Having snacks for the field and through-out the day during your hunt is a great idea especially if you are one to get hangry. Again our hunts are all day sits and having stuff to snack on through-out the day is probably a wise idea. If, you don't want take a break mid day for lunch it's also a good idea to bring extra snacks to get you through the day until dinner later on after the hunt.

spring snow goose hunt 9

Bird Cleaning and Packing Gear

We are not responsible for your harvested snow geese after you shoot them. It is your responsibility to clean and transport your snow geese after your hunt. We do not have any place to store them and or take them for you. Please bring cleaning knives, utensils, bags, and cooler to pack your snow geese and take them home with you. It is also your responsibility to understand you must transport any waterfowl across borders with one wing left attached and it is not our responsibility if you do not follow this law.

spring snow goose hunt 10

Trash Bags

Trash bags for cleaning up your blinds and or your hunting area after you are finished hunting. We do our best to keep the fields clean and our blinds clean so that the next people using them don't have to clean up someone elses mess. Please also be aware we are hunting on someone else's property so lets respect their land and clean up our spent shotgun shells and any other trash we may have following the hunts.

Spring Snow Goose Hunt Lodging

Currently we do not offer any dedicated lodging we are typically on the move and do our best to stay with the migration as it pushes through the United States. If you are looking for lodging we stay in hotels and motels along our journey and we are glad to help in locating suitable accommodations for you and your hunting party when you book a spring snow goose hunt with us.

We typically stay in pretty cheap and low rate motels to keep cost down but, most of the time their may be other accommodations near by if you request different lodging needs.

In the future this may change and we may have dedicated lodging to offer our guests on our spring snow goose hunt. We are always on the look out for the best opportunity to offer the best in an all inclusive packaging for our hunters so, please feel free to stay tuned as we progress and continue to grow.
